WORCESTER — The Worcester Historical Commission unanimously waived a demolition delay for a 10-unit apartment conversion at 60 Shrewsbury Street. Chair Erica Helnarski led the seven-member board through five cases in roughly an hour, including roof and porch repairs at 65 Cedar Street and 30 Newbury Street. Robert Branca of Brando Realty Group told the commission "there's a great demand for housing in the city" as he described converting a former Wormtown Brewery production building into apartments.
Property owner Ted Khanna outlined a multi-year restoration plan for 48 Cedar Street, saying he spends "$1,000 a year" patching the historic slate roof rather than replacing it with a $50,000 asphalt roof. All eight motions, including a continuance for 1 Westminster Street and amended minutes approvals, passed 7-0 by roll call.
