Worcester explains why homes must be pre-wired for electrification
Worcester explained that its requirement to pre-wire new construction for electrification is meant to spare future occupants from expensive retrofits as the state works toward a net-zero economy by 2050.
The Town of Worcester on Oct. 29 explained the reasoning behind its requirement that new construction be pre-wired for electrification.
According to the town, wiring a building for electrification is quick and inexpensive when done during construction, but retrofitting that wiring later is costly and disruptive. The pre-wiring requirement is meant to protect future occupants from those higher upgrade costs as Massachusetts works toward a net-zero economy by 2050.
Net-zero generally refers to balancing the amount of greenhouse gases emitted with the amount removed from the atmosphere.
