Panel files Grove-Lansing turn ban, cites no jurisdiction

Other Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026

Worcester traffic panel files Grove-Lansing turn ban, citing no jurisdiction over state road. More than 15 residents spoke on dueling petitions to bar left turns onto Lansing Avenue from Grove and Holden streets, with Grove Street resident Mike Laramo describing three separate crashes into his property, including an SUV driven under his porch. Department of Transportation and Mobility Commissioner Stephen Raleigh said the city logged six crashes at the intersection in five years but cannot restrict turns on state-owned Grove Street; MassDOT has agreed to a corridor-wide road safety audit in coming months.

Parkton Avenue residents opposed the ban, fearing diverted traffic onto their unsidewalked private street. The committee also unanimously adopted a tow-zone ordinance for Albany Street and Fantasia Drive and split 2-1, with Councilor Rob Bellotta dissenting, on filing a Theodore Tomaiolo Way parking request.
