Board of Health · Meeting of September 18, 2026
Worcester's Board of Health approved a state grant deal to add a dedicated tobacco compliance inspector and welcomed Nikki Nixon as permanent Director of Public Health. The board, meeting in a brief special session after technical problems scuttled a fully virtual meeting earlier in the week, voted 3-0 to accept the Massachusetts Health Officers Association-funded agreement, which adds a one-year tobacco inspector position to free up the city's existing inspector, Kyle, for retailer education work. Nixon called it "adding capacity to really bring our work plan to fruition," and board member Patrick Lowe called it "a great partnership." Members also voted 3-0 to approve the August 3 meeting minutes.
The board's regular meeting, postponed from earlier in the week, was rescheduled for September 30 at 6:30 p.m. in person, and will add a new item on homelessness following recent City Council discussion.
