WORCESTER — The Worcester Redevelopment Authority voted 5-0 to approve a two-year lease with Maxwell Silverman's Banquet and Conference Center for the Union Station restaurant and Grand Hall, rejecting a rival tenant's bid to rebid it. Attorney Mark Borenstein, representing adjacent tenant 961 Restaurants LLC, called the sole proposal "borderline not advantageous" and said the arrangement makes commuters "second-class citizens." Chair Pitcher and members Walter Weeks and Restrepo said accepting the deal protected events already booked in the Grand Hall and noted only one bidder responded to the original request for proposals. The board also voted 4-0 to renew its electrical services contract with Del Signore Electrical Contractors, voted 4-0 to rebid HVAC and plumbing services, and welcomed new member Candy Merrill-Carlson.
Staff reported $1.685 million in September expenditures, driven by a $1.38 million MBTA reimbursement.
