WORCESTER — The Worcester Planning Board voted 4-0 to approve a 24-unit affordable housing project at 0 Grafton Street. Developer David Sadowski of DJ and Associates said the two 12-unit buildings will offer income-restricted one- and two-bedroom units under a 30-year affordability lease, including four accessible units. The board granted a special permit cutting required parking in half, to 24 spaces, but kept a contested condition requiring builder Andre Cassis to rebuild roughly 1,600 feet of sidewalk in cement with granite curbing, a project Cassis estimated at $50,000, after DPW's engineering head reportedly said the requirement "did not originate out of their division." Separately, the board continued a site plan at 23 Everton Street to November 18 after neighbor Cheryl Noel described past basement flooding from an undocumented drain line staff found crossing the property.
The board also voted 4-0 to recommend converting Midgley Avenue and Esper Avenue to public roads, with DPW estimating repair costs of $165,260 and $246,187, respectively; resident Paula Schappett said "emergency vehicles can't safely travel down the road" in its current condition.
